Your LinkedIn profile needs to have a profile photo – follow these LinkedIn profile picture tips:
Are you a job seeker on LinkedIn? If you are, be sure that your profile includes a profile picture. Having a profile picture makes it 7 times more likely your profile will be noticed by recruiters and hiring managers.
Looks shouldn’t matter, but you’re seven times more likely to have your LinkedIn profile viewed if it includes a photograph. Without one, you’re shooting yourself in the foot.
Hiring managers want to know who you are and imagine what it would be like to work with you. All of this can be communicated through a good LinkedIn profile photo.
Not any photo will do – be sure your LinkedIn profile picture puts you in the best professional light.
For your LinkedIn profile picture, you’ll want to use a headshot of yourself that is engaging, warm, and professional. You definitely don’t want to use the picture taken of you on the beach last summer.
These are the attributes of a good LinkedIn profile picture:
-Smile with your eyes and don’t look tired
-Dress appropriately for the job you want – dress as if it were your 1st day on the job
-Hold your head at an interesting angle – this isn’t a mug shot
-Ladies, it’s often a good idea to have your hair styled and your makeup professionally done
Be sure your LinkedIn profile photo is the right size and shape.
Now that you have a photo that shows you off as the friendly, professional person you are, the next step is to crop, resize, and optimize the picture file according to LinkedIn’s guidelines. Make sure your photo file:
-is a square with dimensions of at least 200 x 200 pixels but no more than 500 x 500 pixels
-has a file size of no more than 4MB
-is in 1 of these file formats: JPG, GIF, or PNG
How to upload your picture to your LinkedIn profile.
I know the LinkedIn platform can be confusing at first, so here are some instructions for uploading a profile photo on LinkedIn
1) Log into your LinkedIn profile / account
2) Click on Edit Profile
3) Click on the Photo icon
4) Find your profile photo file on your hard drive and upload it
Congratulations! That’s all there is to it – your LinkedIn profile is on its way to becoming the job search tool you need.
